about

Down by the River is the new single of London based outfit Terra viva since the release of their 2019 debut album Lies in Suit and Tie. The single introduces new singer Francesca Confortini as well as a new direction of the project towards a more electronic sound. Down by the River is a riff heavy track with instantly recognizable hooks like the bassline intro, the chorus melody and the after-chorus synth riff which has a world music flavor. The use of the baritone sax to support the verses and choruses gives the track a distinctive sound that is typical of the contemporary London underground music scene.
Although sonically different from their previous effort, Down by the River maintains the socio-political involvement of the band this time highlighting the Brexit phenomenon and its makers.

lyrics

(Verse 1)
A big banner on a bus
Is appealing, did you know?
You could change decisions made

(Pre-Chorus 1)
There is no such thing as inequality
When it is approved it is reality
No need to explain as it means what it means
Why did you believe?

(Chorus 1)
Broken promises
You gave your last Judas kiss
(Let’s just get on with it)
I’m gonna wash my stains
Down by the river who’s coming with me?

(Verse 2)
The big banner was a lie
We realised it, did you know?
We can change decisions made
Before water overflows

(Pre-Chorus 2)
Why did you come up with that publicity?
Rethink Reskill Reboot is just a travesty.
The sweat and tears that goes into the artistry
To Shape somebody’s dream into reality

(Chorus 2)
Broken promises
You gave your last Judas kiss
(Let’s just get on with it)
I’m gonna wash my stains
Down by the river who’s coming with me?

(Breakdown)
Down by the river who’s coming with me?
Down by the river who’s coming with me?
Down by the river who’s coming with me?
Down by the river who’s coming with me?
Why did you believe?

(Chorus 3)
Broken promises
You gave your last Judas kiss
(Let’s just get on with it)
I’m gonna wash my stains
Down by the river, down by the river

(Chorus 4)
Broken promises
You gave your last Judas kiss
(Let’s just get on with it)
We will expose your stains
Down by the river for all to see

I’m gonna wash my stains
Down by the river who’s coming with me?

I’m gonna wash my stains
Why did you believe?
